M. Eleanor Wynot Symmes

M. Eleanor Wynot Symmes of South Yarmouth, who leaves a sister in Mashpee, died on September 26 at the age of 96.
Ms. Symmes was born in 1912 in Braintree, where she lived until 1974.
After attending the Braintree Public Schools and Boston’s Chandler School of Business, she managed payroll and benefits for the Braintree school system. She also served as secretary of the school board.
She retired to West Dennis, and in 2001, moved to Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth.
She was a member of the First Congregational Churches of Braintree and of Yarmouthport.
During her years on Cape Cod, she was active in the West Dennis Garden Club and the A.C. Chapter of PEO. She used her artistic talent to produce many decorative craft items.
She leaves a sister, Rowena Lammers of Mashpee; a brother, William A. Wynot of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; a daughter, Barbara Gershey of Stanfordville, New York; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winslow E. Symmes, and a brother.
A private burial took place Tuesday at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
