Although the town no longer uses the Upper Cape Cod Regional Transfer Station to send its municipal waste to SEMASS in Rochester, Bourne is still a voting member of the transfer station’s board, which includes representatives from all four Upper Cape towns.
As a part of a renegotiation of the intermunicipal agreement among the towns, it was agreed on Wednesday that Bourne would share in the station by contributing seven percent of its operating costs.
Town Administrator Thomas M. Guerino said that would translate now to about $21,000.
Bourne was an original member of the station, but the town stopped using the facility, on the Massachusetts Military Reservation, after it received the permits necessary to allow it to dispose of its trash in its own landfill.
Town officials decided it was in the town’s best interest to remain a part of the regional operation, one that it might conceivably need to use if an emergency were to occur at the landfill.
John S. Elliott, Falmouth’s member of the board of governors, said the board worked Wednesday to make some other changes to the agreement, sending it back to legal counsel for finalization.
Mr. Elliot said the transfer station board is expected to vote on a final draft on May 14. After that, the agreement will need to be voted upon by the selectmen of all four towns.
