FALMOUTH- The wetlands and wildlife element of the Local Comprehensive Plan will be the topic of the latest listening session at town hall tonight at 7.
The session is part of a year-and-a-half process to update the town’s Local Comprehensive Plan, the document that lays out the town’s goals in various areas.
The current version of the Local Comprehensive Plan states the major goals are to preserve and restore the wetlands and to sustain the wildlife and plant habitat in Falmouth.
The current plan’s policies aim to restore existing wetlands, construct artificial wetlands, protect streams and rivers from alteration, and establish open space corridors for wildlife and plant habitats.
There are 54 identified salt ponds, great ponds, and lesser ponds in Falmouth. Data on these ponds consists of size, water quality, critical habitat, public use, and pollution sources. The inventory also includes a listing of the major vernal pools, and plant species, as well as species of mammals, birds, and fish in town.
The Local Plan Committee and the conservation commission will host the listening session.
